Monte Cook is a product development specialist. Meticulous by nature, he relishes in solving problems, whether the challenge is aesthetic, mechanical or technical. Monte’s work encompasses industrial electronics, industrial durable goods, consumer products, furniture and housewares. He is an expert at shepherding rough ideas into fully realized, manufacturable products. Joining FlatHED in 2001 as principal and stake-holder, he is responsible for product development and project management, as well as leading concept and detail design efforts. Monte began his career at Insight Product Development, an engineering group focused on commercializing proprietary technologies in head-up display optics systems and sound imaging. He later joined Percon, Inc., a rapidly growing industrial AutoID manufacturer, introducing the company to industrial design and developing their first in-house custom designed product line of portable terminals. In addition to leading industrial design and mechanical engineering efforts, Monte managed visual identity development, injection molded part verification, overseas tooling management environmental testing verification and sustaining engineering. Monte earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design at Western Washington University, and won several regional honors for his design work. Published work includes a design selected for “1000 Product Designs: Form, Function, and Technology from Around the World” by Eric Chan. Monte was recently named as co-inventor on a US Patent awarded to a start-up business and FlatHED client.

Wendie Siverts is an industrial designer, educator and founder of FlatHED, Inc. Curious and tenacious, she welcomes new challenges. She employs a systematic iterative approach in developing comprehensive recommendations to solve a range of design problems. After starting her career in the consumer electronics field, Wendie works in many areas including industrial electronics, sporting gear, medical products, durable goods and computing products. Assiduous and thoughtful, she obsesses over every project, large or small. Principal and president of FlatHED, Inc., Wendie focuses on crafting programs to assure clients meet their design, visual identity and user-interface goals. Wendie founded Wendie Siverts Studio, the precursor to FlatHED, in 1996. She also was a ground floor hire at two other start-ups, head-up display maker Virtual Vision (now eMagin) and Fiori Product Development, playing a key role in early business development. Wendie earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from Western Washington University and her work has been recognized with an IDSA IDEA Silver as well as with regional honors. She is named in Virtual Vision’s head-up display design patents. She regularly speaks to professional groups, and has held leadership positions in the Industrial Designers Society of America Oregon Chapter. And, for the Art Institute of Portland, she taught an upper level industrial design studio class focused on the innovative use of material, process and color.
